I thought that Flexitronic/Solectron doesn't do a good job of repairing laptops, but Bytecraft (repair depots in Australia) takes the wooden spoon for laptop repairs.

A T60 laptop that came back from repair centre on Friday, and i opened up the box. Guess what?

    • The guy whom did the repair at Bytecraft must be using it as a wok or something. The new keyboard that they replaced my old keyboard, which has so much dusts and oil droplets on it, i thought they fished the part out of a garbage bin (apparently it was new, but you wouldn't know from looking at it). Also lot of hairs on the laptop and inside it, i hope they wear hair net.
    • Palmrest's securing mechanism was also damaged, when they didn't probably attach it when they screwed everything into place, now there is a crack in the palmrest.
    • Missing one screw.
    • Scratches on the bottom of the laptop
    • Improperly attached parts
    • No repair summary (which even solectron gave)
    • Didn't bother check everything is properly repaired

I am just shocked how these amateur technicians and repair company, even got the job from Lenovo in the first place.

Luckily, Lenovo have called me several times, and they will get people to look at the problem for me. Kudo to Lenovo customer services, but not to its shoddy repair centres.

Might be better to have them ship you a new keyboard so you can install it yourself.

They will have to ship me a new keyboard, palmrest and an external bottom casing.... I honestly think that the repair company is hiring 3 year old kids to do the repair jobs.

sorry to hear about your experience.   i'm surprised you chose to post this here instead of the lenovo forum where someone would see it and could look into the issue.

Yeah that was just my little rant, everything is okay now (thanks Lenovo, the no so nice Bytecraft is in my bad book now). I don't want to add to the workload of Mark_Lenovo, he seems to be too busy with normal day-to-day work.

Its alright since i got a few laptops to spare, but it does tell me which services are good and which services are bad. And Bytecraft gets the wooden spoon in terms of repair support and professionalism, even their customer supports is bad. Rude and unhelpful, they keep on telling me that it is not their problem, and that i should give Lenovo customer support a call.

I have got off the phone with Lenovo customer support, and according to their service support staff. Bytecraft has taken over all Australian Thinkpad and Thinkcentre hardware support.

This is unacceptable, i got a T61 that is going to repair tomorrow, and now i am worried that it will come back like the T60, half repaired and fully damaged for no reason.

I will give them a second chance, but i have a feeling that i am going to be rear-ended again by them. If they send me back another half repaired laptop or laptop that is damaged further, then i will promise they will be on the newspaper.

It's owned by the Tatts group, so they're probably more used to work with pokies than laptops :)

no wonder the repair is so shoddy, i guess using their services is like gambling.... hopefully next time they will send me a W700 DS full spec as a jackpot for their repair services.

Who is the onsite provider? I am looking for a Lenovo Thinkpad. Sick and tired of my HP and the service I got with the hollow warranty there.

It really comes down at the technician repairing it. You usually get half-arsed repairs because technicians rush the job because they have a ton of other notebooks to repair.

As for HP Australia, they contracted 2 tech companies for repair service, NCSS and AWA. Havent really had any issues with them.

HP business warranty service is good. Onsite providers are usually contracted techs. They are suppose to finish the job in one visit and you can monitor what they do. You are waaay more likely to get a satisfactory job with onsite.

HP's business notebook warranty is superb in Australia. I believe AWA services the commercial notebook warranty in NSW. Lenovo warranties, on the other hand, has been disappointing from my experience and I mean the Thinkpad warranties covered by IBM Services.

Onsite and depot all Bytecraft, whom is owned by Tatts group, they specialize in slot machine repair. Hopefully they can put a slot machine in my laptop, and put some dollars in it, so i can play with it.

I'm lucky in that I have a factory authorized warranty agent nearby. The owners are friends of someone I use to work for. What sucks is that it's a 45 min drive to get there. I'm lucky. So far I haven't had much trouble with warranty repairs. Tech support is a different matter entirely.

the t60 needed a new keyboard and a fan replaced, pretty simple. The end result is a disgusting mess.

Not even the EliteBooks? They have been more solid than the T400 I've used.

You should take some photos as this appears pretty unique/bizarre.

I have a new elitebook (got it for free), and i don't like it. Don't know why, i think they are a fine laptops compared to what i had before from HP.

They got the Thinkpads T60, so hopefully it comes back fixed.

WOW! That sounds exactly like my experience with my HP Tablet PC. To think that I bought a business class machine and think that I would not have to deal with that stuff again.
