Alright, I go to Lenovo.com and choose "Solutions for education" and choose my state for higher education. Then I click on the Thinkpad notebook option from the dropdown menu. It then gives me this page:
https://www.directlenovo.com/public/public/products/dsp_feature_product.cfm?display=main&cat_id=24
I've tried selecting the "let me build it" option and it always says "Sorry, there are no systems currently available for the "Let me build it" program in this product series."
What the heck am I doing wrong?
-
well for one thing, dont click ur state and instead go to students and alumni on the right side, works for everyone.
-
Use slide-down link just below the "Lenovo" logo, which is on left top of the page.
Here is the link. -
Choose California for the state instead of your state.
I got massive discounts and 4 year on-site warranty for free. -
agreed with jayzala,
however, your university has to have a contract with Lenovo to use the education state discount.
they made me use my university email to verify. some people say you don't need one though -
Go to this website: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...owPromo?LandingPage=/All/US/Portals/Education
Then look for Purchase Online and then goto Higher Education and pick which state you are from (i.e. CA).
Then on the new page, under the large Lenovo marquee banner at the top, click Products.
Then proceed to pick your notebook as usual (i.e. T61).
You will need your email address from the 4-year university that you attend to create an account with Lenovo so you can buy your notebook. The university that you attend needs to have a contract with Lenovo. I live in CA and universities like UCLA and Cal (Berkeley) both work.
Good luck. -
I think all of the UC's have contracts with Lenovo. I used my university email and it worked as well.

Guys, this thread is already on a thin line. Only order via the school you are actually registered in, and we will not tolerate posts regarding how to get deeper or new discounts by inputting fake information to Levono's site.
-
sorry if we were treading thin ice Greg.
was just trying to back up a claim...didn't think about the inputting fake info part. -
I just decided to use the Visa discount. My school (North Dakota State) doesn't have a contract and I didn't want to have any problems with using a different state.
-
the sales thru higher education protal are actually done by authorized buyers of each educational members, not the students themselves. so i don't think you orders will be processed unless you use students & alumini portal.
-
then why is it i'm a student at the university, created a higher education portal account, put in my email address, and it worked?
i think as long as your university has a contract with lenovo and you are registered under that university, it is allowed. -
lucky you. i think you got your order simply because you purchased with your school's email account. i think if you are a student in public school under Lenovo WSCA/NASPO contract, you can buy from lenovo directly, although the computers are generally purchased by schools. i don't have the time for the detailed contract, but if any of you would like to take a peek, here it is:
http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/government/wscanaspo.html
my school sells thinkpad, but they already has a contract with dell. no more deals for thinkpads. even you want a dell in my school, you'll have to order from school. -
Like Wuzertheloser, I also got a T61p through the educational site with just my schools email address. I saved an extra $140 over the labor day sale. Plus the extra warranty.
-
I am a student at Arizona State University, I don't know if my school has a contract or not but I tried using the WSCA/NASPO contract pricing, and when I put in my school email address it let me order.
The price was really good, I saved like $800 off my order of a T61. I think it was even cheaper than the SPP pricing.
It also unlocked some more options that weren't available when buying a laptop without the price discount.
Pretty interesting. This was only 2 days ago, my order still says "In process" so that worries me a little. I really hope it goes through! I am a legitimate student, in the professional program in Computer Systems Engineering, I should be elligible for it.
