a friend is planning to buy a notebook from Lenovo and we both live in NJ. we have many friends across the country. are there any states where Lenovo doesn't operate, so it doesn't need to collect the sales tax?

    anyone ordered without the tax?

What about the resellers. They wouldn't have to charge tax if they didn't operate in NJ.

as I've understood lenovo charges sales tax on all states except states with zero tax like Oregon, New Hampshire, Delware.

Alaksa has 0% tax but $25 shipping and handling fee.

I had my W520 shipped to my parents in Montana since there's no sales tax there. Saved me about $80 compared to having it shipped to me at college in Wyoming. :D

Don't forget the hassle of having to work with your CC company to get a laptop sent to an address other than your own plus consider the cost of having it shipped back to you.

Even with my $1800 W520 all that simply would not have been worth it.

Sometimes saving $40-50 costs more than the $40 or 50.

    this is from lenovo's website:

Since Lenovo operates in all 50 states it must, by law, charge your state's sales tax percentage on your purchases as well as any associated "shipping and handling" charges, where applicable. At this time, we can not accept tax-exempt orders on our site (although we plan to accept them in the near future), or specific, entitled discounts. However, just call us at 1-866-42-THINK and we'll help you place your tax-exempt order, or ensure that you receive your entitled discounts.

We'll for me I can avoid sale tax if I go to Amazon I live in California. This however I'm not 100 percent sure on, but I think they don't charge a sales tax. When notebooks are this expensive tax hurts.

Yep, Amazon charges no sales tax in California.

As far as I know, and as several others have noted, Lenovo charges sales tax in all states with a sales tax. I believe those states would be Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

Not for long. Big box stores and the "not to be mentioned here US business in DC" are working hard to change Amazon's taxless system.

I wonder if anyone ever thought of a business in Delaware or Oregon that buys items for people and ships them to their state to avoid state taxes.

    Hi,

Regarding tax, I have a quick question also. After I did all the necessary steps, i "add to cart", and the total is about $2500. I am wondering if that total included tax already, because if I try to pay by paypal and it charge me the same amount, which is $2500. So i assume that it already included tax.

when you reach the payment page with the icons of paypal etc. you should see the tax.

I've checked several times and although they in tax-less states they don't charge tax.
