I was looking at the Lenovo u350 notebook and I am thinking about purchasing yet I noticed the battery life on the 4 cell ion is pretty weak and only lasts about 3-4 hours. Yet, the model can be built with an 8 cell battery which will surely add more batt life, yet I was wondering if this would make the laptop bulky and heavy? I know it would add an extra half a lb yet I was wondering if it also grooves out of the bottom and makes the laptop sit at a slant like other big batteries in other laptops. If anyone has experience with the Lenovo u350 with an 8 cell batt and could provide feedback or even better post some pictures that would be great.

I just ordered one today from Amazon and prior to doing so called Lenovo. They didn't know anything about the size or bulk of the battery but they were pretty specific about it still being 4 weeks out for ordering. I'm on a deadline for owning a machine so I went and ordered and order the su7300 model from Amazon for 699 and the extra 50 I would have spent at Lenovo will go to a battery.

Dude if its anything like the ones with the Thinkpads dont get it. Get the smallest one because it makes the notebook heavy. If you have discrete graphics you will need the AC juice anyway as the charge from the batter wont be long enough for normal use. I seriously suggest you get the smallest one and its also lighter to carry around the AC adaptor.

if you have access to ac then yes, otherwise there's absolutely no point in carrying the laptop AND the ac adaptor around with nowhere to plug in.

Can anyone with the 8 cell version of the u350 share how much it affects the size of the laptop?

Not your model but over the 4 cell they wont be flush. so you have case storage issues as not really retangular. Also as I said unless your are Mike Tyson its going to give your shoulder arthritis in old age lugging a brick around. I'm serious bro.

Right now the U350 is only offered with an 8 cell battery on the lenovo website. The pictures in the gallery are probably a 4 cell, right?

Does anyone know how the 8 cell battery is shaped and how far is sticks out? I was considering the new thinkpad edge but the 6 cell battery on that is like a paper towel tube -- which is fine for typing at a desk, but not so great for using it your lap.
