Have been looking at E420s. Wondering if I should wait for the ThinkPad Edge S430? Also, what price range is expected?

Pricing is set to start at $749 for the S430, it'll be much thinner than the E420s and still include an optical drive. I'd say it's worth waiting for if you can wait 4 - 5 months. The E420s has met EOL, no longer on Lenovo.com, you'd have to buy it from a retailer that still has stock.

Like Andrew said if you can afford to wait a few months then the S430 looks like it should be worth the wait.

Even better still would be to save up and get a full ThinkPad (i.e. a T4x0 or an X220).

Not necessarily. From Lenovo Newsroom | New ThinkPad Edge Laptops Fuse Small Business with Lifestyle Computing (emphasis mine)

Just like my tried and true T61.

@mod - Thanks for endorsing my view that we're all IdeaPads now. Nevertheless, you might want to move this thread one more time. :)

My interest in the ThinkPad is largely based on the keys which seem more like a standard keyboard: cupped, elevation and stroke.

Will the S430 keys be similar, better, worse?

Other available brands/models of laptops with the "user friendly" keys?
