Lenovo Warranty - international

Alright, so I'm located in the US and am thinking of buying a Thinkpad once the new refreshes come along.

However, I might go to school in Britain next year, and was wondering what would happen if I had problems with my Thinkpad. Is it covered internationally or what?

 

I think you can get international warranty but not from the normal site. I think that's a phone order thing (i think!). Those all say United States on the warranty page if you buy it online and i don't see an option to do international when doing it online.

 

Your ThinkPad will either have international warranty service or it wont, you cant buy it, at least thats what Ive been reading around these board from more experienced ThinkPad'ers. You can extend warranty period or choose to have on-site warranty instead of carry-in warranty for example, but you cant add international warranty service coverage, lets say, in UK to machine which is serviced only, for example, in Americas.

You can determine whether your laptop gets maximum international coverage (as in being serviced in all countries where Lenovo has service centers) by checking machine type number here:

Read the info on that page about where to look for to find out machine type.

 

There is different level of international warranty coverage for your thnkpads based on the first 4 digits of your model no.

Some of the US models are covered in Europe, some are not.

 

Typically the way it works is machines are released in the US. As models are added in overseas markets, international warranty is added to those machine types. As has been noted, you can look up the IWS status before you buy.
