When I went back to school with the X220 last year I had big issues with interference on 2.4ghz in my apartment. Getting a 5ghz router completely fixed it. My cousin just got a X230 and he's having the same problem on 2.4ghz living in an apartment complex. But his work Dell machine is fine so it's something specific to the Thinkpad adapter or antenna.

My W520 with a 6300 works perfectly fine in all places that I've tried. My work T420s' wifi (ThinkPad BGN) dies every so often in the office and I have to keep it plugged in.

Did you get the rebadged Realtek (read: ThinkPad a/g/n) adapter? I had plenty of trouble with it in crowded lecture halls on my X100e. Updating to latest Realtek drivers helped marginally. T400 with 5300 and W520 with 6300 have no such problems.

I should've been more specific. I've got the 6205, my cousin has the 2200. It seems to be more of an issue where there are many access points rather than devices. Transmit power at max, roaming aggressiveness at min.

I've used an Intel 6205 in *very* crowded environments (dozens of users sharing the AP I'm on, 20+ visible SSIDs) with no issues.
Then again, neither of us are working with a large sample size here...
Lenovo wireless can't deal with crowded 2.4ghz?
