My first guess would be the chipset driver. You should be able to find it on Lenovo's site.

    Good luck.

Awww don't give up! I decided to reassemble my X301 which has a similar architecture to your X200 and reinstall XP to source the problem for you. You are correct as the Chipset driver from Lenovo does not seem to address the missing SM Bus Controller in Windows XP. First check the hardware ID of your SM Bus Controller by going to the Device Manager and going to its properties. You should see something like this...

Does the above entry in blue match that on your X200? If so then do the following:

Step 1 - Download this INF package ( here) and extract the contents to somewhere you'll remember (to the Desktop would be easier in this case). You should see a folder called "inf" which has 2 additional folders inside. As this is XP we're only interested in the "All" folder.

Step 2 - Go back to your Device Manager, right-click on the SM Bus Controller and click on "Update Driver" as in the screenshot above.

Step 3 - When it asks to connect to Windows Update select "No, not this time" and click next.

Step 4 - On the next prompt, select the second option - "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" as below. Then click next.

Step 5 - Now this option, select "Search for the best driver in these locations", uncheck the first option of "Search removable media" but choose the second option and click on "Browse". Now here guide the search to the "All" folder you just extracted (on this example it would be on your desktop). After that click on next and let XP do its magic.

Step 6 - Hopefully if all goes to plan then you see this prompt.

Congratulations, your SM Bus Controller is now installed on your system. Hope this helps!
