    Hi,

It seems like my lenovo y470 is running to hot and throttling performance

Here's what happens in battlefield 3:

I start the game off - I'm running it full screen on low. I average arsI start the game off - I'm running it full screen on low. I average around 50fps for 30 seconds to a minute. My CPU then heats up to 90C, and the cpu throttles itself to about 1500mhz per core (instead of 2500) and my FPS tanks to about 20. As a result my CPU usage, and subsequent gpu usage lowers again in a positive feedback loop making my computer run like .

I tried both using and not using lenovo's energy management software- it seems to me that the fan just doesn't spin that fast. Does anyone know of a way for me to override fan controls? Speedfan shows nothing, but it is possible to change fan speed through windows because the lenovo software can do it.

    any ideas?

This happens in all games- even with thermal management set at 'efficient thermal dissipation' my temperatures soar up and my fan just doesn't rev up. I've taken apart the computer and looked at the heatsink and fan- both are perfectly clear. The laptop sits on a wooden desk and the laptop has built in risers.

This just started happening to me. Bioshock 2 which was playable with smooth framerates is now laggy no-matter what resolution I choose. Hopefully when I get my cooler I should be able to keep the processor within the limit before it throttles. I'm going to check if the new nvidia beta drivers are going to make a difference.

mersonix basically your fan is just broken. Plain and simple. Does it spin at all?
