    Hello!

Like many people here, I am in the market for a new laptop.

I bought the Acer AS4820TG, but received an email from the distrubuter saying that the model has been phased out and will be replaced with the AS4830TG. This model hasn't hit the States, and some other decision factors have pushed me to look elsewhere.

I am particularly interested with the Lenovo y470/570 series laptops. Great specs for an affordable price. As it is a pretty new model release, I can't seem to find many reviews. (I have lurked around the Official Lounge, also)

Anybody who has bought or had hands on experience, please share you thoughts (no matter how small)!

Looking for 2nd Gen i5, Great laptop graphics, 14 inch screen (can live with 15), large HDD, and portability.

From what I have read, the y570 is more 'bang for your buck' (more for the money). What info on dimensions (primarily thickness), weight, and battery life? Lenovo is advertising 4.8 hours with Intel graphics, and 4.1 hours with discrete.

    Thanks so much,

    [::AP::]

And, I don't know much about the Sandy Bridge issues, this model isn't affected, right? Its only the P67 and H67 motherboards? I feel so stupid -__-

All defective Sandy Bridge CPU's have been taken care and are no longer a problem.

The y470 just doesn't cut for me as the GPU is rather weak. The y570 looks to be a great laptop, but is really let down by the screen. If you can stomach the 1366x768 screen, then it seems to be a great laptop.

If you can, I would wait until official reviews come and more people get their hands on it. It doesn't take long for people to find out the flaws of the laptop. You're going to be taking a slight risk as the model is new and unknown.

Thanks. I am not an HD fanatic, nor a heavy gamer. I am currently using a Dell Inspiron E1405. The screen will be about the same, (1280x800 now), and graphics card will be light years improvement (Intel GMA 945 now). Besides, I'll *MOST LIKELY* be using the HDMI out to go to a 1080p Samsung B2330 :)

I am leaning towards the y470. (I know there is a large difference between GT550M and 555m, but I would barely notice). I see that you have a y460... how is the battery life? Obviously it will be different with the different hardware, but I am hoping for 4-5 hours. Is this going to far? What do you get?

    Thanks for the replies.

I easily get 4 hours and up to 5 hours will light internet usage, etc. Lenovo quoted the y460 battery life as 3.5 hours, so I wouldn't be surprised if they get better battery life than what Lenovo says.

Oh goodie. Thats pretty honest on their part. :) Manufacturers often over advertise...
Heck, any battery is better than mine now. Rocking out to 15 minutes off the charger!

Anyways, what are your thoughts on Lenovo? I have never heard anything...bad. Pretty reliable company? (minus the occasional defects, etc).

Just trying to gain every bit of info I can. Buying a new laptop is a big decision...

Lenovo is a fine company, although they are known for their Thinkpad lineup.

My Thinkpad x100e had a lot of problems(A lemon) and I will say that Lenovo does a great job at fixing your laptop quickly. Even faster if you get Onsite, as a tech. comes right to your house and fixes it on the spot. Customer service is a hit or miss, as with most companies.

To get an even better deal, you may want to talk to a sales rep to get a price quote, as they can be much cheaper. Also, if you're a student, you can through the student section of the site for great deals.

Though choice given the competition and it being a new laptop. Take your time, don't rush it, and hopefully you'll end up with a laptop that suits your needs.

From what I have read, besides a few lemons, ThinkPads are tough as nails and extremely reliable. Hoping the reputation rolls into the IdeaPad lineup, too.

Sales rep...online? Kiosk? At a store?

I used the chat on the site to talk to a sales rep. You could always call them if you're good at haggling on the phone.

I see that you're looking at several different brands; Make sure you mention that to the sales rep, as making a small sale is better than making no sale. You have the money that they want. ;)

Did you get a price quote?

What is the daily life of your laptop? I know you said you don't game and that you'll most likely hook it up to a TV.

I got a price quote. Same specs as above, ad ~$850. ($915 with tax/shipping) I didn't talk with a sales rep though.

I don't game often, but I will be ordering BFBC2 and Crysis soon. The laptop is hooked up to a Samsung SyncMaster B2330. (23 inch widescreen)

The deal above is pretty good!

I ended up buying the y470. Free shipping, but added a 2yr warranty. ~$950 total. Thanks for the help.
