If that is their true commitment I believe they should allow to opt for a clean install.
And going further, I would love to be able to order a laptop without a Windows license. -
Sounds like a good start, and hopefully they keep their word.
It would be nice if they start to provide clean Windows discs with their computers to make it easier to clean-install after the sale. -
Good on Lenovo to do this (even though the Thinkpad lineup wasn't technically affected at all), as long as prices stay low. Historically, manufacturers bundled bloatware to add a bit of profit on the razor-thin margins for budget PCs.

I wish they would bring back the DOS Thinkpads. Those were guarantied crap and M$ tax free.

I thought that you could still buy a Thinkpad with FreeDOS or something. Did that change recently?

Not recently. That option was pulled - at least in the USA - quite some time ago. -
