This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    If that is their true commitment I believe they should allow to opt for a clean install.
    And going further, I would love to be able to order a laptop without a Windows license.

    Sounds like a good start, and hopefully they keep their word.

    It would be nice if they start to provide clean Windows discs with their computers to make it easier to clean-install after the sale.

    Good on Lenovo to do this (even though the Thinkpad lineup wasn't technically affected at all), as long as prices stay low. Historically, manufacturers bundled bloatware to add a bit of profit on the razor-thin margins for budget PCs.

    I wish they would bring back the DOS Thinkpads. Those were guarantied crap and M$ tax free.

    I thought that you could still buy a Thinkpad with FreeDOS or something. Did that change recently?

    Not recently. That option was pulled - at least in the USA - quite some time ago.
