So... what's the general preference the heavier/larger 15 inch screen (at what resolution?) or the lighter/smalled 14.1 inch (at what resolution?)?

    Vote :)

I have the 15" SXGA+. It is at the limit of the smallest I personally would want an SXGA+ screen which highlights the fact that it is a personal preference. Some people can look at a 14" SXGA+ all day, while others cannot. If you can get a look at one before buying, I would recommend it.

I was robbed by a sweet little old lady on a motorized cart and I didn't even see it coming.

I've got a 15" SXGA+ as well. In retrospect, I could just as easily have got by with a 14" SXGA+, and if your eyes can handle it that might be the way to go. Still, the extra inch of screen is nice if you don't mind the extra weight.

The one definisitive thing I can say is stick with the FlexView screens and the SXGA+ res. Definitely the way to go.

I have the 14.1 SXGA. At first I thought it was way to small. After a few days, my eyes have adjusted and I love it now. I love the extra space. You will need a week to adjust, and if you still don't like it, then that means you should get the XGA.

Good thing IBM has 30 day return policy.

If I was going for a DTR I would want a bigger screen. But I really like the 14" compared to the 15". The 15" is portable, but the 14" is just better, and big enough for my purposes. But hey its personal preferance, IBM will be glad to sell you either or both.

It's my opinion that if you are going for a portable notebook, and size weight and unobtrusiveness are important, the 14 is better of the too.
Big enough to not feel bably cramped but small enough to really have that portable feeling to it. But whatever.

Well, though I have posted a question asking if the 15" is sturdier than the 14", I would still vote for the 14". i have a 14" T42 with max resolution of 1024 * 768(I feel that is enough for most users). I would always go for light weight & portability.

The reason why I posted my comment on sturdiness is that, the salesman at IBM told me that this laptop can withstand even a persons weight upto 90 kgs. But when i feel it, it does not seem THAT strong. hence my doubt. But I must say, the 15" seems more sturdy though.

definitely the 14.1 at SXGA!! 14 is the perfect size for me, light to carry around yet big enough to use as a desktop replacement!

I had a 15 model and it felt bulky. if I were to ever go for a 15..it would most likely be a widescreen in order to lower the height and primarily because I needed the performance at a lower cost.. since most 14s don't have a good dedicated video card..and those that do (i.e Toshiba Tecra M3) cost an arm and a leg and simply isn't worth it.

    14.1" SXGA+ for me.

Until recently I thought that I could only work off a 14.1" or 15" XGA screen.

However, I am very happy with the Thinkpad SXGA+ models.
