I just bought the Thinkpad T60 and notice that there are light leakage on the LCD. Does anyone know if the LCD can be replace under IBM/Lenovo waranty policy? I hate knowing that I spent money on defective product :(

What kind of leakage? Do you have pictures? Is it noticeable on a black screen, such as during boot up, or all of the time? Some leakage is simply the way a laptop LCD operates.

ALL lcd screens have light leakage. (period)

a friend of mine just droped nearly 5 grand on a sharp aquos.. and it has light leakage

Lenovo won't do anything unless the screen is glowing nearly white when it's supposed to be black.

Here is Lenovo's choices. Throw out all the screens that have a bit of leakage thereby greatly increasing the cost of the end product due to wastage. Or let through some screens that have an acceptable amount of leakage whereby they can sell them at a more wallet friendly price. Which do you prefer? If you're that picky, but at Costco or Dell where you can return more easily.

Well, the light leakage is noticeable when the screen is black during boot up. I'll try to post some pictures later.
While I'm not trying to be picky, I just don't like the fact that I could be one of the unlucky people receiving defective product. I jumped on the deal for T60 a while back as I've heard many people praise the quality of the Thinkpad series. My previous laptop was also a Lenovo (3000 N100) and it had no light leakage. I was a bit disappointed when I notice the light leakage on, what presumably, to be a quality product like Thinkpad T60.

Some light leakage is very normal. It's a bit unrealistic to expect zero light leakage nowadays. And if you do have one that has none consider yourself very lucky.

I have some on my 15.4" which is noticeable on bootup and only visible on a black background, otherwise its practically non existent - that to me is within reason as far as light leakage is concerned.

And Thinkpad gets their screens pretty much like every other major brands - Samsung, LG being the chief ones. Thus, associating the 'Thinkpad quality' to the screens is a bit haphazard to say the least. The one major difference can be the coating they use ie Matte, Truelife, Vibrantview etc that can enhance and sometimes even degrade performance if applied incorrectly. But these have pretty much no impact as far as light leakage is concerned so its moot anyway.

I don't believe so. The only way to fix it is to get a replacement. And even then it's still a roll of dice, you can get the same screen or even a worse one.

If you have a decent screen, then it's better to stick with it.

That seems normal to me. It's not incredibly a lot but it's noticeable. Mine is like that.

Try turning off Gamma and tweaking the Brightness and Contrast settings. Possibly tune the Digital Vibrance setting as well.
