    Hi guys,

I was wondering if someone could help me?

I am trying to record sound on my W520 through the combined headphone / line in jack. I have bought a device for recording telephone calls, which plugs in to the line in jack.

I am having trouble getting this working. In the "Sound" menu in Control Panel, only "Internal Microphone" is listed as a recording device under the "Recording" tab. In "speakers properties" the controller is listed as "Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD".

Could anyone please offer some advice on this?

You need to split the headset port into the older seperate headphone/microphone jacks with an appropriate splitter.

so you can't use the port as a line in without a splitter?

I'm confused, can the headphone port be used as a line in? is there an "appropriate splitter" available, and if so, what is it called?

I'm not a "serious audio enthusiast" for the purposes of recording something external on my W520, I just want to record something external.
