I am having trouble doing everything on Linux and need a Lenovo specific user to help me a little. First when i boot up it gives me PCI: failed to allocate mem resouces...numbers etc...

Also I believe I am missing basically all the drivers for the laptop like the wireless card and everything. So i need some help on to where i can find these drivers in the package manager.

I am running ubuntu 7.10 on my T61p. Everything works except suspend/hibernate. I got some installation tips from ThinkWiki.

The PCI failure is just the turbomemory. Linux doesn't support intel turbo memory yet. You can pretty much ignore that. On the linux forums people have been saying it shouldn't be too long before turbo memory is supported in linux since intel is very good at supporting open source.

I ran the livecd of linux mint on my t61p and didn't have a problem other than needing to start in safe graphics mode. Did you download the full or lite version of linux mint? For wireless, you should have been able to use the built-in restricted drivers if at the least. Also, with linux mint, make sure you're starting the OS in generic mode and not server mode. Nothing worked right for me then I discovered my default startup on the GRUB was server mode. If it's defaulted to server mode you can edit the boot file to change the order of the GRUB list or completely remove OS's you don't want. I forgot the specifics, but if you go to the linux mint forums and do a search it's there.

One big advantage of Linux is the availability of all the Distro Live CDs.

You can boot up with a Live CD and see immediately if all or most of your hardware is supported.

Ubuntu is one of the more popular....just download and burn the latest Ubuntu iso and boot your PC.

If Ubuntu does not strike your fancy, there are 50 other Distros.

Hey...as a side note to one of the posters....XP does not support the Turbo memory either.

I had Ubuntu 7.10 on my T61, but recently replaced it with Linux Mint 4.0. (More intuitive interface, but slower in my experience.) On both distributions, the graphics and wireless drivers worked right out of the box. I did not have to configure anything.

I did however have some wireless inconsistency issues where I'd be disconnected every once in a while, so I installed new Intel wireless drivers using ndiswrapper. It seemed to resolve the problem.

You should look on the Ubuntu message boards, as Linux Mint is derived from Ubuntu 7.10.
