I received my x220 a few days ago and I love it but I am having a few issues. If you are having problems list them here. With my x220 I did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64Bit and used all provided software on Lenovo's website.
Issues I am having:
1) Once the computer is powered up and running in windows I cannot shut it down, put it in sleep or hibernate by pressing the power button. The power button is basically useless. I have checked all settings and changed each one but it just does nothing. I know it works because it turns the unit on. This is not a huge deal because I have it configured so I can press ALT + F4 and hibernate like that. Could this be a problem some people will have if they installed Windows 7 themselves?
2) Sound through the attached speakers is extremely low and very tinny. This is even with volume at its highest level. I have read some others are having this problem as well. Hopefully it is a driver issue that Lenovo will address.
3) The integrated SD Card reader DOES NOT work. I have installed the drivers from Lenovo but any SD card I insert takes a few minutes to register, then it looks as if the data on the SD card is corrupt. This has happened with numerous SD cards. Probably a driver issue.

re #2, that is every X series, ever. you cant do much with one half-watt to 1w speaker in an ultraportable. use headphones.
-
So these problems didn't exist before you did a clean install?

Some of these could be due to a misconfiguration system. Let's not jump to conclusions. You are commenting after a clean install after all.

How common is the screen edge light bleed? On a black screen from around 11 to 15, I can see it, not just at the bottom but also going up the sides in places. It does distract a bit.
Does anyone not have this bleed or is it normal on all machines? -
#2 Start>Control panel>Hardware and Sounds>Smart Audio>Click on the Equalizer icon at bottom>Raise all the bars and the sound will increase a whole lot

That was my only issue as well. Drove me nuts at first and got the info to fix it yesterday. Now I'm happy

Too late.. I put it in the laptop that was replaced by the x220. Its already formatted.
As for the sound issue, that is now fixed with the EQ settings. Thanks! -
I wonder if they had used a realtek chip whether it would have been quite that soft.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I've seen about 7-10 reports of bleed from X220 here and I have it as well, that's a sizable number considering this is only a forum and whatnot so I'd say it's pretty common -

What's the matter with the fan? Some people say it's always on. Isn't that annoying?!

lol
I hope that constantly running fans and high pitched fan noise gets ironed out in coming ThinkPad revisions, because its big problem for many, couldnt stand it on mine before TPFC. -

Night Mode. OK, thank you, it works a bit more

SD card issue is fixed. Strangely enough after I installed Lenovo "Update and Drivers" software it worked. What is odd is that nothing was updated using that software.

Okay I am an idiot... I didn't know you had to hold down the power button for a half a second for it to shutdown or hibernate. So that leaves me with the sound as the only issue. Even though there is a quick fix, I believe Lenovo needs to look into that problem.
