Newegg has it in different sizes (64GB, 256GB, 512GB, etc). Here's the 256GB model

    EDIT: Just done some checking.

I was successful in creating a creating a GPT partition on a USB flash drive (using MiniTool Partition Wizard). It created a 32MB "Other" GPT partition and another GPT partition (in my case 7.xGB). MiniTool gave me a warning regarding the 7GB partition of " The new created partition cannot be used in Windows. Because Windows could only recognize the first partition on a removable disk" -- which would mean that it cannot be used but I tried to see if that was true.

I checked out this USB flash drive in my desktop (without UEFI) and my X220 (with UEFI) and found that neither of them could see the second partition on the removeable media so I was unable to write the Win 7 ISO to it...

Ah, so they finally took off that spacer people had been modifying for use in ultrabooks and decided to sell it as a new version?

Too little, too late I'm afraid, Crucial. I just got a Samsung 830 for my Thinkpad last week.

For those of you considering Intel 320 series:

This ssd is great. You have to remove the spacer, so all you really need to make this drive work in x220 is a set of shorter screws. I bought a pack of 15 from laptopscrews, item 10004. Worked for me just fine. No warranty stickers, nothing. I saved the spacer and the old screws in case I need to send it to Intel for repairs but that probably won't ever happen.

The ssd itself is very snappy, 250mb/s reads, 160 mb/s writes. I did optimize Win 7 just like everyone else.. also downloaded Intel Toolbox which did some additional tweaks.

As for the Windows reinstall, I created a USB recovery media and used that. No problemd whatsoever and the restore took 10 minutes at most.

    Hi,

I'm still a little uncertain of a mod I have in mind, mainly because i don't know how will it handle temperature variations..

So, here it goes. I'm thinking in dismantling my Vertex2 SSD and use only the stripped board. You can check pictures here.
Problems are 305U doesn't have any fixing points for the HD (check video), which means i have to fix it with double sided tape, and, that i don't know how will it handle temperatures, both, stripped from it's casing and taped to laptop casing.. According to his data sheet his operating temps. are 0º~70ºC, but i don't know if casing does any cooling effect in the process. I'm also afraid to wrap it around in a anti-static bag because of temperature issues.

    What do you think?

    Thanks.

P.S. - I'm double posting this both in np300 and in 7mm SSD threads.

I did this to my Vertex2. I basically removed the PCB, wrapped it in anti static bag, then taped it to the existing HDD caddy.

worked great until i upgraded to an Intel 520 SSD. Check out the pic.

Too little as in? What kind of Samsung 830 did you get? What size is it? Is it also height modifiable?

How did you Optimize Windows 7 (like everyone else? What kind of optimizations is everyone doing?

Anyone got the SPACER plastic remaining from "slimming down" their SSD from 9.5mm to 7mm? I need to do the opposite?

Just to add that the X220 DOES work with the Corsair F60. It doesnt fit in with the factory chassis, so you will need to re-fit it into the caddy by some other means (I used some rubber feet with slots cut in to keep the PCB secure and suspended). Performance is great, and so far no issues.

I pulled the trigger and ordered LITE-ON SSD 32 GB LMT-32L3M, as my win 7 pro installation is under 16gb

I got this drive rather cheap here in indonesia at about $50
I believe this drive is OEM and smaller version of LMT-64M3M

as the drive on its way, i'm wondering, is there anybody somewhere manage to install it and get it to work on x220?
how you guys think? Is it worth it or another $50 down the drain? :D

EDIT: found test result and benchmarks HERE

I just put a wd10spcx (WD 1.0TB 7MM) in my X220... fit into the tray fine, but could only get it to go in with one rubber side. (I couldn't put the little "handle" in with both rubber sides in). Anyone else try this yet?

How does it compare to the old drive size wise? I've thought about it, but it just isn't worth $120 to me. I'll wait until it gets more reasonable before upgrading.

Even though the old one was 7mm too, I wonder if this one isn't a tad bigger than the 7mm it's claiming to be. I finally got it to fit with both rubber bumpers and get the tab in, but it was very difficult.
