I've been lurking on these forums for a while now and I posted a couple of times, including when I lost my first T61P and I really like the forums here. People are understanding and pretty empathic. I have a simple rant though :

The word "flex" should be swear filtered ! :p : People obsess way too much over flex. If nobody ever posted about it, people actually having major flex issues would be the ones shinning through and we'd realise it really isn't as bad as it's made out to be. I've played with many Thinkpads from T23 to my T61P and I've never noticed anything major until I saw threads like "Flex right above 'Esc' key" or "Flex during fullmoon". I'm not saying there has never been a problem, but people blow stuff way out of proportion. Just like the keyboard thing for the T400. Anyway, enjoy those great machines because they're just that and still stomp over alot of the competition.

People posting about how in love they are with their LG LED panels should be banned ! :p :

Really..it's just a screen guys. Yes we want them to be as beautiful as they can but I can **** well see that the placebo effect of knowing you have one probably surpasses the real technical difference of both screens. People are just worshiping the hardware when the difference , although present, is not that noticeable and a good percentage of these guys wouldn't have complained if it weren't for the forum. They would have went on their merry way happy with their laptop.

In any case , issues do happen and I'm glad that the forums are here to discuss and exchange tips and tricks and I'm not trying to bash the them or it's userbase as a whole. Just...lighten up a bit guys. Cheers and enjoy your Thinkpads !

I'm not a Lenovo owner but I still see people obsess over the LG screens at the Dell subforums anyways. It's funny they think LG is better (which some computers it might be) and how they always ask if its possible to get Dell to give them the LG screen with their order. There's also a guide on getting an LG screen LOL.

Funny thing is, for my model the LGs are the ones with the problems and the Samsung I have (which I expected to suck because of all the hype around LG) is so crisp and bright. It makes websites look cozy and warm and fluffy :D

    How about some real rants?

Like Why The @#%$! Lenovo put the USB ports vertical instead of horizontal on the T400 (and others). Huge mistake and annoyance. Not I have to carry extenders/flex USB adapters. Grrr.

Or the Thinklight, with such a crappy shroud, it's unusable unless the screen is at 85 degrees - TOWARDS you.

Or the fact the trackpad is too small; I wish the trackpoint buttons were smaller, and the pad bigger.

But minor rants aside, it's a great laptop for the $.

Seconded. It amazes how the heralded designers of the ThinkPads can get it so awfully wrong sometimes. One more thing, who’s the genius that’s responsible for and continues to put the Fn key in the wrong place?

The people here like to talk about their notebooks/purchases in more detail than the typical user. They're fanatics if you will, much like following your local sports team, where every detail is discussed ad nauseam.

I would agree at some point and I'm not really sure where it is, it crosses the line into obsession. As an example, you've got people freaking out cause they're getting the Samsung LED, though they've seen neither and won't wait to see for themselves to see if they like it before trying to get it "fixed". In some sense if you go looking for a problem you'll find one.

I'd agree it annoying, but I don't know there's much you can do about it. One solution is if I see anything about about LG vs Samsung, I just roll on past.

Hey, you want a rant, I'll give you a rant. The little rubber feet on the bottom of my laptop keep falling out, and no matter what kind of glue I use to stick em back in, THEY WONT STAY IN.

frankly speaking I'm a Samsung Panel owner with the T400 ofcourse. I liked the panel. It was crisp, clear, beautiful to say the least until I discovered some dead pixels which really irritated me since I've paid so much for this machine and expect it to be...well...ALMOST flawless. I had no issues with the picture quality of the samsung LCD. No bluish tinge / bad viewing angles.

Thinklight, yes I feel it could've been designed better. Apart from that I LOVE THE MACHINE! :)

I guess it's because they don't think that the Fn key is used much these days so rather than put it between the Ctrl and Windows key, they thought that it should be out of the way and at the end.

It doesn't bother me that much. I've kinda gotten used to it. But the placement does seem unusual.

I remember the days when the Thinkpads didn't even have the Windows key!

A suggestion to improving the Thinklight is maybe to provide the option of making it dimmer or brighter, kinda like for the LCD screen.

Yes, I agree, some of the complaints are very nit pickey and are too critical, but there seems to be quite a bit of variability between machines and truth to some of the complaints. I saw a Z61 15.4" Thinkpad in person and the screen was horrible. I played with the machine for a 1/2 hour and even with full brightness the screen was extremely dimm, could barely see anything. Right next to it they had a 14.1" T61 and screen was nice and comfortably bright. This made me worry about my machine that I had on order. When I received my machine I was pleasantly surprised about how nice the display was.

I have also seen pictures of peoples brand new machines on this board that had bulges and poor assembly in general. My laptop however, has none of these issues from what I have seen.
