Can you take a screenshot of it? Could it be a dead/stuck pixel?

Does it do anything when you hover over it or click it?
Is it there even after reboot? -
It could be the wallpaper. Have you tried a diffrent wallpaper

It has to do with his video card's icon in the system tray I believe. Dani, I assume you have an ATI card? I also assume you updated to the 8.1 driver?
Go into its preferences and uncheck system tray icon. This is a bug in CCC.exe. Version 8.2 should fix this. -
If it was a dead pixel.. Would it appear in a "Printscreen" screenshot?
-
Dead pixels would not appear in a print screen screenshot.
It is not a dead pixel, look at the size of the thing! -
Try manually shutting down some applications that you use. I have a similar square (a little green one which dissappears when I close ICQ6). So my guess is that the square is there due to an application (or a service) you are running.

The square dissapeared!!! It was a problem of the graphic card driver. The catalyst 8.1 had a bug. Thanks all of you.
