Hello again.
My comp' seems to be very slow during satrt ups.
I am not talking about the perios of time that is AFTER windows had already loaded, but rather the period of time that takes place BEFORE the desktop shows himself:
From the moment I start till the moment it asks me for the password. more so, after I enter my passord the "loading your personal settings" us also taking what seems to be more then a reasonable time.
Its even weirder when I am doing a Restart - then the computer seems to be "fallling a sleep" for 2 minutes until the Lenovo white screen logo starts again.
It is an N100 with 1 Gig of Ram.
From your expirience, is that normal ?
Any suggestions ?
Thanks.

g'day there...i've got a similar configuration, and haven't had a drastic reduction in speed.. The main questions are: have you got rid of all the unnecessary programs that came on the laptop (norton, coreloffice, etc.)? Have you install a fair amount of programs afterwards that are all trying to load things in the background?
Also, for system improvement, see this very helpful thread. -
The link that mnaah has given, is a good guide to sorting the loading and shutting/restarting times out. If you are still unhappy, then yu may want to consider a hard disk upgrade to something like a 7200 RPM, as they offer quite an improvment upon slower spin rate hard disks. This is assuming you don't already have a 7200 RPM drive.

I had noticed the same thing. I believe it to be software related because when I did a reformat with a fresh operating system it was much faster.
I had the same delay after typing in a password. It would sit there for about an minute before the desktop would show up.
When shutting down the shut down screen would also stay there for 1-2 minutes. -
I believe this hanging on startup/shutdown is mainly due to the ethernet NIC trying to gain an IP address. While you may have nothing plugged in it, it still tries. I know it sounds stupid and weird, but try it - disable your Ethernet and see how it goes. I remember having this same problem with my T60 WS, so I simply restored and fiddled around with it a little bit. Also, there are online guides for faster shutdowns too, involving using the registry... most of them basically reduce the time Windows waits before killing a program/service. One even lets Windows kill them itself without your input
....
EDIT: Also try making sure that you have the latest drivers. Sometimes that helps too.
