I have an OEM AC adapter that came with my machine that it probably around 8 ft or so. Most of the time that is long enough when it is sitting on my desk but when I take it out I'd like to have a longer AC adapter.

Is there any AC adapter longer than the OEM that isn't some poorly made thing off of ebay I might be able to buy?

I just kept swapping the brick-to-outlet side cable with any longer one I could find and now I have a 12 foot long cable :D.

At home the 8ft cable or so is fine but at school and in some of the coffee shops I go to the length of the cable is dreadful.

Are there any lengthier AC Adapters available for my T400? I'd hate to buy something not made by Lenovo but at this point I'd consider it.

Are you talking about the power cord? Any 3 prong should work, just find the length your needs..

Is buying a cheap cable from say ebay or something as risky as buying an off brand power brick?

I just kept swapping the brick-to-outlet side for any longer cable I encountered, and it now totals over twelve feet.

That shouldn't be a problem unless you are buying from China. The calbes are standard parts. All notebook PSUs use either a C8 "Cloverleaf" 3 pin connector or an ungrounded 2 pin "Fig 8" connector.

You are okay as long you are buying from reputable dealers, as the cable should be properly insulated and plastic sheathing around the cables should be flexible enough to not break after prolonged use.
