Dono, I don't have any guys, just a member like you on this forum. I have never stated anything to remotely suggest there is huge differences. Comments were made to suggest there is NO difference. Imo totally wrong.
Other comments ( like several you just made - x-ray vision, massive drop in quality ) are over-exaggerated arguments that NO ONE has made but please continue to use as rhetoric makes for interesting reading.
It is very easy for me to see the differences even in those reduced embedded images. It is only more apparent to me when viewed full screen. Things look hazy ( meaning blurry ).
Just as I told syed if you can't see the difference fantastic for you. You definitely will get better fps by reducing resolution. May want to try 720p to see if that will work for you.
I do appreciate he posted those images. It does help people get some idea of what to expect with non-native resolutions. Much more helpful than just telling people there is no difference.
What would be even nicer is a bf3 specific stat table. Maybe fps at different settings/combinations. Multiplayer specifically. Full server and state ping. That is what the OP wanted to know, I would like to know, perhaps others would be interested in as well. If you want to throw in screenshots great too but perhaps a video with fps running may go much longer in answering questions.
Sometimes we get sidetracked by details of a argument and miss the forest from the trees.
BTW my 660M/1080 is being built right now and wont be here for a couple more days or I would have done this long ago.

Well, i got my y580 today guys! I can't wait to get home and see how BF3 runs.
The y580 is replacing my desktop which has a GTX 285 and Intel Core Q6600 with 4GB DDR2 Ram. How does the y580 compare to my desktop? -
The ridiculous thing is that these guys are playing on a 15 inch screen and they honestly believe its some night and day difference. You were right, they hyperbolized the situation by saying it would suddenly become blurry and the colors would get messed up. Not only is that information completely wrong, but it's irresponsible because other forum members might read it and take it as fact.
I'm playing on a 54 inch screen and that gives me the ability to see the difference much more clearly. My point was that on such a small screen, small differences in resolution are not significant. Yes, if you are really looking for it, the 1080p will look a bit sharper.
The whole point of putting identical screenshots in different resolutions was to show the average reader what they could realistically expect. However the best statement was that he could easily tell the difference in those little embedded images before going full screen. He could easily tell.
I'm certain that a vast majority of people wouldn't even notice the difference even on a much larger screen. Want to test it out? Run a game in both resolutions and just ask someone random which looks better and if one looks significantly better.
There is nothing going on here but a placebo effect. Not a true placebo as there is definitely some benefit. Flip that resolution switch up a little and suddenly it looks so much better. Except that it doesn't.

How does it compare to my desktop specs in my last post? -
yes, it's interesting that some people are looking for 1080p on a 14" screen, or even on a 13.3" screen.
My understanding is that the resolution matters more for big screen and less for smaller screens. -
Now, that's not to say that a 768p resolution on a 13.3" laptop is bad, it's all about the Pixels Per Inch. But when you're sitting maybe 1.5 feet away from the screen, the PPI is much more noticeable than, say, an HDTV, so resolution holds some more weight. How much is up to the discretion of the user, some users really don't care, while others with more keen eyes who are videophiles or just randomly notice will care. -
The only thing I noticed so far is the above pictures have better contrast and colors. But for the majority, both are passable. Maybe there are some games that are more sensitive to scaling than others.
Keep up the good reviews! -
