Ok I currently have a T60 with the x1400 video card and dual core 2GHz.
I am looking for a portable notebook for school and a computer to play games.
Now is the 128mb Quadro in the t61p better than the nvs 140m.
Also what sort of gains will I see over my x1400. Right now I play Age of empires III, Empire at War, and other with decent settings. 1280x1024
I am looking at playing Call of Duty 4 and Company of Heroes
Will it be possible with the Quadro?
Now I know the Quadro is only a 64 bit bus, however, isnt it based on the 8600m and the nvs 140m based off the 8400m GPU?? So even with a crippled bus it should outperform it in games.
What are the 3dmark score on these guys. I know its not a good way to judge.
Lastly is I am most likely going to stick with XP pro, is there any advantage with Vista for gaming minus DX10.

the quadro is definitely better than the nvs. It's a big difference from the benchmarks I have seen. With the 256mb quadro (I have a 15" t61p), I am able to play Call of Duty 4 w/ pretty good settings at 1280x1024. Look at the game screenshot thread for some visuals. IMO this is one of the better laptops for gaming other than the Alienware's.

I was just hearing that the nvs 140 performed on par with the quadro 570m. I was just making sure that newer games would perform better on the quadro.
Also with game like empire at war will I see a huge differance in performance coming from an x1400. Right now I have medium setting at 1280x1024 and it works great.
With the laptop2go drivers has anybody 3dmark scored there laptop with the 128mb Quadro 570m.
Here is what I plan on getting Is is a good deal?
T8300
2 Gigs ram
XP pro
Quadro FX 570m 128mb
160gig 7200rpm HD
3945 wireless
1 year base warranty
981.09 shipped -
You should be able to save quite a bit by bringing the ram down to 1 gig (1 DIMM), sticking with the cheapest hard drive and doing the upgrades yourself. You could probably end up with 3 gigs of ram, a 160gb 7200 rpm, and an external converted from the default hard drvie. for the same price.
2GB Ram ($35): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211187
200 GB 7200rpm hdd ($140): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160 -
I was thinking about that but the 2GB is only $20 over 1GB.
Also the Hard drive is only $60 more over the stock.
SoI figure Ill let them take care of it.
Does anybody own a T61P 14.1 inch and can confirm Call of Duty 4 on medium setting 1280x1024?
