I'm looking at getting a tablet laptop and am liking the X61T from Lenovo. For meetings I find it easier to write notes the old fashioned way with pen and paper, and decided that I wanted to go green and save a few trees. My MacBook Pro is awesome, but Apple doesn't believe in making a tablet MacBook. Anyway, here's my questions:

    1. Can you rate the tablet screen's responsiveness when writing on it? (0 = Horrible, 10 = Awesome)
    2. Does the fact that the X61T not have a touchpad bother you?
    3. Is the screen brightness sufficient in an outdoor environment?
    4. Do Lenovo machines come with a ton of bloat-ware? (Not really a problem for me, but it would save some headaches if it was virtually bloat-less)
    5. Can you rate the overall performance? (A vague question, so can you say what you use it for?)
    6. Is there an upcoming update for the laptop? The X61T was release sometime last year, so I'm wondering on if I should hold of a month or so...

    Thanks in advance!

    1. I give it a 9.
    2. I don't like touchpads and much prefer TrackPoint.
    3. I haven't really used it outdoors so I can't really say.
    4. I think it's enough bloat to warrant a clean or selective factory restore. Things like Norton trials for example.

As for a new model -- it's being replaced by the X200 Tablet in the fall. If you don't mind paying more, you could wait for that since it may have a LED screen, better chipset, etc.

Have you seen the ModBook? It's not cheap, but neither is the X61t.

To some degree the answers to all your questions will be subjective, except question six of course.

I think most people either prefer the pointstick or they don't. I personally don't. It's not horrible, but I just like the touchpad better.

Sadly, ThinkPads are coming with bloatware which they never did in the past. My R60 only had Google Desktop while the T61 I saw recently had quite a bit more. You can use Rescue and Recovery to do a custom install thereby ridding yourself of the bloatware.

I find the screen good indoor not so great out door in direct sun it get realy washed out and you have to max the brighness on it

Do Lenovo machines come with a ton of bloat-ware? (Not really a problem for me, but it would save some headaches if it was virtually bloat-less)

Is there an upcoming update for the laptop? The X61T was release sometime last year, so I'm wondering on if I should hold of a month or so...

I looked at the ModBook... but the problem with it is that it's a slate-style tablet and therefore doesn't have a keyboard. I plan on wiping the factory install of the OS on it with the Rescue and Recovery, as several people have suggested.

Thanks for the info! What size battery do you have in yours, the 8-cell or 4-cell? If the X61T can get 4 hours on using the 4-cell battery, then that would be awesome.

I always wondered about the L7500 and how it compares to the T7X00 series. Is it still a good processor? I could never find any wprime or other cpu benchmarks comparing the two. I kind of wanted a X61t but the processor kinda put me off since I do need a lot of processing power for my work.
