I'm currently using a T60p. I do have the W500 high res screen but found the display lacking so I leave that docked now with external monitor and just use the T60p for my laptop.

The t60p is nice, but it's starting to seem a little sluggish and heavy. I'm looking for a newer machine with a little more horsepower and a little smaller. Nothing to extreme. I don't game on it so I don't need discrete graphics. I've been looking at all the obvious options, T410s, X201, X200s. I've been searching ebay and lenovo outlet, almost jumped on a couple of deals, but what's really holding me back are the displays. I'm really spoiled by the old flexview screens and after using the W500 I really don't want to repeat that. I'd rather stick with my slowish T60p.

Then I read some on the Tablet that supposed to have a nicer display in general and then they even have the high brightness panel for it, so I'm thinking maybe that's it.

Any input on the outdoor panel as compared to the old flexview displays like that on the T60p. And is that even an ordering option from Lenovo anymore?

    Thanks!

    Kevin

The outdoor display hasn't been available for some time. Since the end of October I think. I wish they'd bring it back but I suspect we'll be waiting for the new generation of tablets before that happens.

You might be able to find a pre-configured X201t with the outdoor display either via ebay or the internet. If you don't mind last years model, the X200t, that's another option.

I see one on ebay and have found a few TopSeller models, just didn't want to bite the bullet until I got some feedback from this group on the display as compared to the old flexviews.

    Thanks!

I had the older W500 and have used the Newer w510.. I think the W510 screens are LED powered and a little brighter..but then again..I am no expert..

The FHD screens on the T510 and W510 are also an option.

The outdoor display has wide viewing angles and a high contrast ratio just like the old FlexViews. Plus you can take it outside. You just won't get the resolution.

Keep in mind because the X201t is designed to be a Tablet PC the hinge pivots on two axises. Also the part of the hinge that lets it open and close like a regular notebook is considerably more "loose" because it is designed to be easily put into and taken out of Slate mode. They did this to reduce wear on the hinge when using it heavily; unfortunately this means it can sometimes be a problem when in laptop mode (because the screen will not stay put all the time. ie: if you were in a car/ bus with a lot of shaking/ bumps, then the screen wouldn't stay put; but it should be fine for most normal uses)

This isn't to say it is really loose, just looser than the X200t, or a regular IBM laptop. It is only under more unconventional situations where this occurs. but then again it is a Tablet PC so you can put it in Slate mode and have it be one solid piece if you need true stability.

As to the screen It is supposed to be the *best* outdoor viewable screen (the best option is called a 400nit Outdoor viewable screen. it does not have touch or multi-touch, only Wacom Pen) It also has the best overall quality and viewing angles (From what I hear it is the most perfect screen you can imagine). I don't have one yet, but I'm going to be getting a X201t with outdoor viewable screen (I do not need touch, it is kinda buggy and just interferes with things)
