I am looking to buy a used T400, and I have several questions about the process of buying a good used machine with some sort of how-to procedures.
Is there a way for one potential buyer to verify or check the original built specs of a laptop like checking for warranty status from lenovo.com, so any modifications or upgrades to the original built machine can be revealed or found easily?
For instance, the ads states that these are the specs on this system, how do I know or check these ARE the listed components indeed built into this system.
Is a way or program to check for this easily? Or you have to check this manually via the device manager or system properties...
Any tips will much appreciated!![]()

Lenovo Support & downloads - Parts lookup
I just went back to T400 from T410 -

I'm curious as why you make that switch back to a T410, any reasons to this at all because T410 and T400 specs are very similar. -
If someone wants to scam you they can, but if you pay with a CC via PP you should be covered if it doesn't work out. The only way you'll know for sure is when you get it. If you have the machine type you can google it. If the seller will give you the serial number, some won't, then you can do the parts look up.

I like to use the laptop late night, the fan noise of T410 kind of bother me. T400 is quite , cool and fast enough.

You can ask for a picture of the BIOS system summary window and a screenshot of HWinfo32 matching each other, but as ZaZ said, there's always a room for a scam. So, no 100% guarantee can be had in this case.

Before you buy, It's better to get the SN to check everything.
At least make confirm the spec, such as LED backlight? P or T cpu? SLIC2.0 or 2.1? dead pixel? 1440X900 or 1280X800? If 2G memory, how many sticks? -
everest can check the spec

First of all, thanks for these great tips and info!
Anyway, I am dealing with the party locally. So, I think I have a chance to check out the system personally before committing to the deal. Great heads-up about the scamming part though...I will follow your advice and the link provided to verify all the needed details, as leshan mentioned!! -
It seems to me that we have no way tell the unit is being purchased new vs. refurbished at the first place...
The following is the parts looking-up provided by lenovo. Is this tell you anythings?
Looking for advice...T400 related!
