Send it in for repair, sounds like the clutch mechanism broke (part that keeps tension). I have had my t60 for 7 months now, and I have never had anything go from with the hinges. Mine is still requiring 2 hands to open.

I've also noticed a lot of give on my t61, especially on the right side, however, when I stake my comp around with lid open it doesnt budge, but if you take the right corner and slightly push back and forth, the whole thing moves back and forth a good 3/4'ths inch...anyone else have this as well?

Not a lot of give at all on either of my hinges. Maybe a cm.

is the right side 'looser' than your left? mine definitely is. Maybe it is b/c of the smaller hinge and also if you look closely between the hinge and lid on the vertical part, do you notice that both sides of the left hinge are connected, while only the right side of the right side of the lid are connected by some plasticy thing?

No the right isn't looser then the left. Both hinges are only connected on one side. The right hinge has the wireless antennas going through the ride side of it and in through the lid.

thanks for your input...this is interesting...I wonder if the little mechanism that creates the tension is messed up on my right side...btw...do you have a 15 or 14 inch? and widescreen or standard?

perhaps that is why, a widescreen has a greater length/width than the standard...ahh..who knows...i need to stop worrying about these things...but i do like that solid feeling of the hinge I used to have on my older t40
