I am having a problem with my T420, occasionally the monitor will turn off when I move the screen, then I have to move it all the way flat for it to come back on. It seems like a connection problem, is there anyway I can fix it myself or check what is the problem?

Check the LCD cable to make sure it hasn't been dislodged, if the connection to the board is fine then check the connector behind the screen. Thankfully it's relatively easy to access the screen on the T420 if you follow the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
