I had to reload XP on my Z60m and all the MS Office icons disappeared from the Start menu which is understandable. The question is how do I get them back?

All the MS Office related folders are still on the HD. However when I go directly to the MSWord icon in this folder for example I get the message that I must reinstall MS Office from its original location.

What should I be doing here to restore MS Office?

I may be wrong but I think your only option is to reinstall Office from the original CD/DVD's. A bunch of stuff gets installed/changed in the Windows directory and when you reinstalled XP you lost those files.

Do you have the original Office install media?

    Unfortunately no.

It is a preloaded machine and I don't recall that there was anything with it when I got it.

    :(

Typically if you buy Office with your machine, they give you the discs.

I bought it used so my next stop is to see if the original owner still has them.

Not hopeful but worth a shot.

A perfect time to try out Open Office if you ask me.

Heck, I am running Firefox not Explorer so I might as well do that too.

Hard to believe that OpenOffice is free!

We'll see if the old adage is true or not.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

I would suggest the beta version of OpenOffice. It can play nice with the .docx format from Office2007.

ZaZ, I know this is going to be a pretty dumb question, but what exactly is JRE?

Found the beta at the below link but there are (2) versions for Windows, one w/ JRE & one w/o.

A search of the OpenOffice site did not get me a definition which I am guessing has to do with their extensions.

A question on OpenOffice -- is the Beta markedly better than the current release? Any improvements on load time, memory efficiency?

I don't use it enough to say. It meets my needs, the occasional word document or spreadsheet.

I think that must be correct.
