I think the main reason is that the x200 cost less than the x200s. People also do not want to fork over a few hundred $ more for a weaker processor

The x200s has a WXGA (1440x900) display, and that might not be ideal for most users using a 12 inch screen. The 6m cache on the SL9400 really makes up for any lack of performance when compared to p8400 of the x200. I have the x200t with that processor, and it appears to be quicker in windows than my HP with p8700. Either way, I think the x200s it targeted to less of the population than the x200.

Not all X200s have WXGA+ screens. Some are sold with LED and CFFL WXGA screens. Quickness is usually related to the hard drive not the CPU.

i got mine X200s with the WXGA LED backlight.... yes it was usually around 1000 AUD more than a similar configured X200. I guess the huge markup on price is what drove people away from the X200s.

Didn't know that about the screens, thanks. For the record, the HP and the Lenovo have WD 250GB 7200rpm drives.

They use multiple drive vendors. My X200 came with a Toshiba.

I was referring to the two drives I have in my x200t and HP, not what they come with. I also mentioned that they both have the same hard drive, but the x200t is relatively faster in windows; rather it’s opening office stuff or just surfing the internet. It’s very surprising how quick the SL9400 processor appears to be. O well, I wonder if that has anything to do with the topic. :D

yeah the outlet sells the x200s with different kinds of screens.
one have to look carefully as i think there is a price premium for the higher resolution screen.

    Question :
The refurb unit do not come with any DVD discs of the operating systems and software/bloatware.
What softwares installed by Lenovo do you consider as bloatware? eg I would think the battery management system would be a good software to have right?

How do i reinstall the OS if the refurb unit does not come with the OS discs?

You have to create your own by making a backup DVD. I don't think any laptop comes with recovery disk nowadays.

I just use system update and battery manager

as said no Thinkpad laptop comes with the os installation discs (unless specified otherwise), they have a recovery partition that contains the OS, which you can burn onto a set of cd/dvd for later use.

so i i burn the os from the recovery partition, will the thinkpad softwares also be included?
then i could reformat the hdd and reinstall the os and try to remove the bloat ware
is that the way to do it?
    thanks

the recovery media would include the OS, drivers and the Lenovo Thinkvantage softwares.
