I have a thinkpad x61 and lately the right side of the laptop is making clicking noises.. i don't know if it's the hard drive or not... i've sent the laptop twice to the tech support and still the same....have you guys experience something like this?

download the Hitachi HDD acoustics management and load it from an external source. You can set the levels/speed manually.
-
do you know how to set the levels and speed? what is the common levels and speed that i should set up?. i am not a computer genius so i don't want to mess things up
-
should i change the hard drive? i have the 100gb hard drive 7200rpm.. should i get a 5400rpm one?
-
hell no. Performance FTW
and which one do you have, the Hitachi one or the Seagate one ? -
i dont know
it comes with the lenovo laptop.. i've complaint to the tech support about the noise the laptop makes and they were very nice about it.. i sent it to them twice.. the problem still there so i give up... do you think it's the hard drive?.. 'cause the noise comes from the upper right side where the home/end/up/down buttons are

That's probably your DVD drive, the HD is on the lower RHS, under the wrist rest.
Pull the DVD drive out and see if the noise goes away. If it does, then send back just the DVD unit instead of your whole machine! (It's easy, just move the small slider next to the DVD drive till the pull tab pops out, then pull the tab...) -
the x61 doesnt have an optical drive so it cannot be the DVD drive

Google "click noise resolved", click the link from
notebookreview, you will find an easy solution -
Doh!
