    Hi
I have a Lenovo F41 laptop. When I boot my laptop or keep screen off for few hours and on it, lower half of the screen gets faded colored strips and nothing is visible where top half part of the screen works perfectly. Slowly these strips go down and in around 10 minutes screen becomes totally visible and works perfectly until I next use/boot.

This problem behaves strangely. Behavior changes in weather season. In hot season, 10% of lower part got problem and within 1 minute full screen gets perfect. But in cold season, almost half of lower screen part gets color strips. It means if temperature is cool, % of color strips is high.

I don’t think this is screen problem because this problem doesn’t remain after 10 minutes max of boot. I haven’t checked it with another screen till now.

    Please suggest me.

    Regards,
    lakhats

It sounds like it might be a problem with your GPU(graphics card). Those kinds of problems are expensive(i.e not worth it) fix. You would probably have to replace the motherboard. Hard to say for sure but sounds like that might be the problem.

Did you run the test diagnostics for your GPU card? I don't know if Thinkvantage tools were available then, but you could run the test through them or use windows built in tools.

The test will ask various types of questions (like, whether you see certain color strips etc.) and you should be able to find out if it is a problem with the card.

T40 series did have PC Doctor preinstalled, if not, go get the Lenovo System Toolbox, as far as I'm aware this program is available to all IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads. Run it and let us know the results.

    Dear Pdd, firesnake and stealth,

I test graphics card by using another tool "Video card stability test" also.

Test went well no issues reported. The summary is:

    WIN x86: 5.1 Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2330 @ 1.60GHz
    Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family: 23

    -------------------------------------------------------------

Problem in my laptop display is something different. for the 10 minutes, let us say when laptop is just started and not warm enough, this problem persists.

Initially around 50% lower part is covered by color vertical lines but upper part works very nicely. Within 10 minutes, color vertical lines gets shorter towards the bottom of screen and totally disappears. After that, screen works nicely, no problem at all until i keep my laptop off for more then 30 minutes.

Due to this problem, I have to wait for 10 minutes everytime to use my laptop after I turn it on.

I wonder if there is something with the LCD inverter cable, doesn't seem to be a software or video card issue, heck even the LCD itself sounds fine.
