Is it safe to use the lowest "Performance" in Power Manager > AC setting while setting the other options like hard disk, standby, etc. on "Never"?

I'm doing this because of the heat being emitted and I leave my laptop on 24/7.

    I'm using a Z60m.

Of course. Why would you be worried about locking the CPU at the lowest speed. Naturally you will sacrifice performance.

If you want a compromise then adaptive is a very good choice. This will cause the laptop to remain at the lowest speed the vast majority of the time, but allow it to speed up (in a fraction of a second) as needed. This provides a good balance of performance and heat management.

I also use the Lowest setting for the CPU and it drops my temp by about 7 - 9 degrees Celcius. I don't usually notice the drop in performance unless I run something that takes a lot of juice. Browsing and/or other basic tasks don't show any lag. The real benefit of course, is the extended battery life, which for me easily comes out to about 45 to 60 minutes more (which is what we call a buttload) as compared to the Highest setting for the CPU.

I typically use "Power Source Optimized" for general use (eliminates CPU whine found in Maximum Battery Life), and obviously Maximum Performance for encoding, gaming and whatnot.

Just curious, how much slower do your guys' processors get? My T9400 goes from 2.53Ghz all the way down to 800Mhz when I have it on the lowest setting in power manager.
