After following the discussions on this site for the past couple of months I have finally ordered the T60P. Thanks to everyone, for I have learned a lot. I had narrowed it down to Thinkpad and Asus. But, after Asus discontinued their only 4:3 model (not a big fan of widescreen ratio), V6V, it became a choice between T60 and T60P.

This is what I ordered last week:

    2613CTOTP T60P
    Core 2 Duo T7200
    15" SXGA+ Flexview
    ATI FireGL 5250 256 MB
    1.5GB ram
60 GB 5400 rpm (will be upgrading to 100GB 7200 rpm soon)
    DVD Rec 8X
    6 Cell
    Fingerprint reader
    11A/B/G/N

I will be soon ordering the Hitachi 100GB 7200 rpm hard drive. Can anyone please post the serial/part number for that so that I don't order the wrong one? Thanks, again!

You should be needing the SATA version of the HGST Travelstar 7K100, the 100GB should be:
    HTS721010G9SA00 (0A25016)

NewEgg has them for around US$131 right now (+taxes/shipping).

How did you get an ABGN wireless card instead of the regular ABG??

Appreciate your response, Angrymob; thank you!

Now, on to the next task of figuring out the steps to restore the new drive.... :)

I just called Lenovo and had the service rep add that specific part number. Ask for part number 41U4780 . Though, not all services reps are familiar with this. The first one I talked to wasn't well informed, and insisted that there was no 11n card.

$30 more than the a/b/g card.

Hey Bento you ordered almost the same thing I'm going to order. How much did you pay for it? I'm planning on getting just 1GB or RAM for now and a 9 cell battery though. I wouldn't mind paying around $1400 for it. Did you get any kind of student discount?

I think my configuration comes to $1712. And I got about 5% discount.

Why not go for the 1.5GB ram? It's only $9 more. Good luck with your order!

    hatch:

Lenovo was having a crazy holiday sale before Christmas back in November/December. The key word here being *was*, it ended on the 21st or 22nd of Dec '06.

Nearly all the models, including the T60p, has US$300 instant off, along with other things such as free 1GB RAM upgrades, discounted processor upgrades (they were doing US$50 upgrade from T5500 to T7200 CPU, which normally costs US$150), and free shipping.

I was tempted to order one myself, but I like my current Dell XPS M1210 too much. :)
