Hi everyone,
I have a lenovo T400, and I get this HORRIBLE output be it on my laptop display or on an external display. See image:![]()
On windows XP it doesn't happen (at least not in a virtual system).
There is no difference between a 32 bit OS and 64bit OS
I have not tried on Linux.
On a fresh windows instal it rarely happens, the longer my system is on, the more frequently it happens. It can be fixed by clicking alt+tab or "show desktop". Also, cycling through windows clears the lines.
I have linked my DxDiag file, so you have the totality of my system information.
please help as this is becoming extremely unpleasant.

What graphics does your T400 have, what BIOS?
-
Try install one of these:
Lenovo Support - Intel GM45 Display Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit), Vista (32-bit) - ThinkPad R400, R500, T400, T400s, T500, W500, X200, X200s, X200 Tablet and X301
Lenovo Support - Intel Display Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit), Vista (64-bit) - ThinkPad R400, R500, T400, T400s, T500, W500, X200, X200s, X200 Tablet and X301
Also, did you upgrade your laptop's RAM after you bought it? -

I see you have 3gb memory installed. See if VT-d is enabled in the BIOS and disable it if it is. There's a known graphics corruption issue with the Intel graphics and odd quantity total ram and VT-d enabled.
Lenovo Support - Visual corruption - ThinkPad R400, R500, T400, T400s, T500, W500, X200, X200s, X200 Tablet, X301 -
Yep, that happens when you have odd number of GBs RAM, like 2GB + 1GB and you're enabling 2 options related to virtualization in BIOS.
Afaik, the solutions would be:
1. get more RAM, like 2+2GB
2. Disable Vt-d in BIOS (I beleive there should be 2 options related to virtualization, and disabling 1 of them should fix the problem).
For more info, read through this:
Lenovo Support - Visual corruption - ThinkPad R400, R500, T400, T400s, T500, W500, X200, X200s, X200 Tablet, X301
You welcome. -
I'll try Vt-d -
OMG THANK YOU!!!!!
disabling vt-d worked
i havent done extensive testing but so far no issues and my display is working perfectly... im nto sure what vt-d does, and I know i NEVER would have solved this without your help.
Special thx to Unreal25 and vinuneuro -
That happened on my T400 and I fixed it by putting two 4 GB's of Ram in each slot.

Pf talk about posting at the same time.
Cheers. I had the same problem and panicked as I thought the laptop is dying.

I have 3Gb of RAM in my laptop, 2Gb stick is 1066Mhz one while the 1Gb stick is 1333mhz one, shipped this way from Lenovo.
No problems so far, but I wonder whether such difference in RAM modules can cause problems in future? -
This only applies to the GM45 chipset.

Thanks
