Are there any American laptop manufacturers left?

Tbh, considering that a big heavy laptop with non-replaceable battery, glossy screen and even more compromised keyboard comes to almost $2000 with 512GB SSD, RMBP starts looking like a good deal.

It hasn't quite yet devolved to that.

I never thought that could happen

Depends on what ThinkPadder you're talking about obviously. A lot of people buy Thinkpads because they are quality laptops, which has a strong overlap with (educated type, not fanboy religion type) Apple buyers.

Yeah, I bought my x220 because of the TP reputation for quality. At the same time, I don't hesitate to tinker a bit just because I can now. The support videos posted on the Lenovo website are pretty awesome, and it made upgrading to a mSata really easy for someone like me who never upgraded anything in a laptop before sans RAM. It is probably something that I will look for when purchasing my next laptop. It is also a reason (not "the") why I personally wouldn't buy a retina MBP. Regardless, there is room for different laptops for different people. Options are a good thing.

I am not sure how many people mentioned this.

There is a certain personality for a Macbook user vs. a ThinkPad user.

    Almost like an automobile.

A MacBook is just not my style.

"American components, Russian Components, ALL MADE IN TAIWAN! " :D

Not a good film, but has some nice quotes.

Falcon Northwest (been in business since 1992!!!), Digital storm, and a few other boutiques still make their stuff in america. Another good thing about FNW and DS is that all their call centers are also in america and are actually staffed with computer literate people.

Haha, nailed it! The movie wasn't good but Willis turned it into watchable as usual, hehe.

Nice. It's amazing that we can still come up with quotes from that movie! Reminds me of the end of college. Here's another...

"You know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon and a thing that has 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder. Makes you feel good, doesn't it?"
