When were the last thinkpads made in Japan?
I read an article from early last year, at which time lenovo was only planning to move thinkpad production to the compal plant- this article said thinkpads were previously made in a Japan facility.
I know mine was made before Lenovo outsourced to Compal, and says "Made in China" on the bottom. Anyone's say "made in Japan"? What generation?
(btw not that it matters, b/c of course they are all highest quality, wherever they are made.

I'd like to know too.

Again, not that this means anything, but I've had "made in Japan" and "made in china" vaio's... and they were night and day- probably just because they were different series though. -
There were A series made in japan. I have one in the basement. My T2x series are made in mexico. As were some of the T40's. Later T40's and T60's were made in shenzhou (sp?) in china. These used to be thinkpad-centric operations. But the T61 is being made up by shanghai i think in the compal plant which has long made the dell inspirons.

A lot of companies are outsourcing their manufacturering to China, Mexico, and Taiwan because of cheaper labor. I believe the Fujitsu Lifebooks are still made in Japan though.
