A real surprise for me. I've been using this laptop for 2 years and it started to wear out at the edges so that I see aluminum. When not using I keep it in the Zeroshock sleeve. Any ideas if I can paint it or something? I think it would be expensive to replace this cover![]()

It's just paint coming off an edge. Your cover isn't wearing out; it's merely wearing.
I'm not sure what you mean by "seeing aluminum" if your cover is magnesium. -
Uhm yeah, sorry for the confusion. Well, that silver thing that I'm seeing is the aluminum (I suppose)
Anyway, is there anything I can do with this?
-
Paint it? Or use some tape?

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
They are battle scars! Don't remove it!! lol

that is magnesium, let me guess a X series of some sort? I use some black paint or permanent marker, there are rubberised paint that you use to spray these imperfections with.
-
-
I usually use black permanent marker. It works quite well for small amount of imperfections, for larger one then you would need something to fill in the surface perfection before using some sort of black colour surface paint.

Real man have star to prove it.

lineS of flight Notebook Virtuoso
Just out of curiosity: If such a thing happens to my machine can I take this to the IBM/ Lenovo Service center and ask them to fix it - for a fee, of course? Or, will "fixing" it involve the replacement of the whole top cover of the lid?
-
My X41 is losing it's paint, and I couldn't care less. This happens to these notebooks - the strength of the chassis isn't compromised in any way, its just natural wear and tear of the soft touch finish. A well loved Thinkpad will carry a battle scar or two with pride.
I've actually been thinking about stripping the black finish completely from the lid on my X41 and polishing it, just to see how it would come out. With it no longer serving as my primary notebook, I might just give it a try. -

What type is that? X201?
-
I have the same thing on my x301 which is a bit over a year old but my bosses x201 which is barely 2 months olds is wearing at the edges. this is proof you have actually used your laptop
-
My s30 has lots of these and my X301 has some minor ones, mostly on the edges.

I'm already seeing the metal on my lid, I bought mine in January.
