Main difference between the X200, X220 and X230 Tablets?

Guys, I had an X200 tablet that I liked (I think it was 200 anyway) but got rid of that.
Now, I kinda want something again and I didn't buy the special they had on the 230T
at the outlet a few weeks ago and I kinda regret it.

So, I was going to see if maybe I can get an older model really cheap (used or something)
but wasn't sure what the differences were. The only thing I can think of is the screen resolution
being a little higher on the 230 and that it comes with a backlit keyboard option.

    Anything else and/or buying advice?

I do NOT need the fastest processor or more than 4 gigs of ram as it'll only be a backup
computer. Webcam or fingerprint reader not necessary but I WANT pen input
and preferably multi gesture but not necessary.

    I PREFER the outdoor/brighter panel.

    Bluetooth is preferred.

Do you guys think the 230's will drop again to a really low level but perhaps this time maybe
with bluetooth and backlit keyboard option? If it hadn't been for that, I would have jumped
on it like a $2 hooker.

    Thanks

    George

If you don't need the latest spec, I would actually recommend the x200t. I'm starting to see them for under $400 on eBay, and I've maintained that they are better designed overall than the current x220t/x230t, which are basically the same. Furthermore, the Penryn LV in the x200t is a little easier on the battery/heat than the Arrandale LV in the later, similarly designed, x201t (which is really overpriced still).

More importantly if you're actually using it to draw, the distance between the tip of the pen and the actual LCD is significantly smaller in the multitouch x200t than in the multitouch x220t, which may or may not be a big deal for you. Edge tracking is also better in the x200t; though I'm not sure if that's a hardware or software issue in the latest generation - most posts that I've read seem to indicate a hardware issue.

..and the screen resolution IS a little smaller, right?

Do you remember if they were win7 or what?

Does the outlet ever sell them cheap? I'd rather buy from them as they have warranty.

They don't do the backlit keyboard though, right and does the 200 offer bluetooth?

    THanks Commander

The screen resolution is 1280x800, versus 1366x768 in the X220t and X230t. Most X200t models were sold with Windows Vista, but later in the model's life, there were some sold preloaded with W7. In any case, there is full W7 driver support for the X200t.

There are occasionally good deals from the outlet, but you'll have to wait and watch. Good sales go really quickly, however.

No, the X200t does not have either a backlit keyboard or a ThinkLight. It can be configured with Bluetooth (or you could install yourself; Lenovo does not whitelist the Bluetooth module as far as I know).

    Thanks.

Does a bluetooth adapter work both ways so to speak? Ie, I can have stuff sending info TO the puter and the puter sending OUT stuff to say my car radio or something?

I doubt that you'll find any *00 series machine in the Outlet. I haven't seen X201 - standard or tablet - in a while there either.

To me personally, X200T felt a lot more solid than X220T.

Screen resolution was the only reason I got rid of mine, but you're obviously OK with 1280x800, so that's a non-issue...

    Happy hunting.

I saw an X201t at a ripoff price in the Outlet a week or so ago, but yeah, I think Lenovo's pretty much out of that generation. If you want an X200t or X201t, eBay probably has the widest selection.

THanks guys. The only one I found on ebay was around 1200 bucks.

Found one on craigslist but the guy wasn't local and although I wrote him, I doubt
    he'll be interested.

    Oh well...

When you search for X201t on ebay, type "x201 tablet" or "x200 tablet". For some reason "x201t" or "x200t" generate way fewer search results.

    Awesome, thanks

Thanks but what's the difference between the 200 and 201?

The overall design of the 200t and 201t are more or less the same: the 200t ship with Penryn CPUs and the 201t has Arrandale. The 201t also has an optional touchpad.

    Option touchpad?

So, do I care about the CPU's? I mean, I don't even know the difference.

I'm trying to find the specs on the had but haven't been able to log into my account on lenovo yet...

Yep, big difference. Already found a bunch.

Since I picked the options on the one I bought a couple of years ago, now of course, I have no idea what the available options are...

How bright is the outdoor display and how bright are the others? Never seen anything but my outdoor display which was incredible.

Man, getting to my account is a total pain. I can't stand websites that require all these super long passwords and now, I still can't
get to it 'cause they're doing a site update... :(

X201t that I got, can do about 6.5 hrs of batt life with 8 cells. I have had x200t before and the first one I had is pretty bad in terms of quality, the second one is pretty good. But the low voltage and ulv CPU on the X200t is pretty slow. I would probably get the X201t instead.

Others have answered this by now: X200t has Penryn cpu with 4500MHD graphics, X201t has Arrandale cpu with Intel HD graphics (or HD 2000).

The way I would differentiate the different processors is

    X200t:

ULV: SU2300 -slow, good battery life, cool
LV: L9400, L9600 -average speed, good battery life, cool

    X201t

ULV: i5-520UM -average to lower (?) speed, ok (good?) battery life, cool? (not many people have one with this processor. I did at one point but never opened the box. Some would compare the performance to an L9400)

LV: i7-640LM -good speed, ok battery life, warm (the more commonly seen processor, the most is known about its performance)

Standard voltage: i5-560M -fast (relatively speaking; slower than Sandy/Ivy Bridge i5 in X220t/X230t), ok to not-as-good battery life, hot.

I would personally opt for the middle ground L9400/9600 X200t or i5-520UM/i7-640LM X201t options. For more discussion about processors go here.

    Screen Options:

Any choice you make will have multitouch or pen only, and standard or bright (or superbright --kind of rare) screen options. With X200t some screens are multitouch capactive or multitouch resistive, as well as CCFL or LED backlit. With X201t all screens are LED backlit, and, if multitouch, are guaranteed (I think) capacitive. X201t wins here because you don't have to guess if you have the brighter, more power efficient LED screens or not. But they are still over-priced IMO.

fatpolomanjr, thanks for the good breakdown of the processors.

I found X200's at a good price with warranty till 2014 on fleabay but not any detailed info about them.
It does say the speed of the processor but not the model number so to speak.

The PEN option is definitely preferable to me.

    Thanks

All have pen support; do you mean you want PEN ONLY? Those are easier to find and less expensive than pen + multitouch. The only way to ever find out more about the specific model, e.g. screen type for X200t, is to ask the seller for the serial number. Then do a parts lookup (google lenovo parts lookup), and match the part numbers to the screens detailed in this thread. Before I bought my X220t I did a lot of research and comparisons of X200 vs X201 vs X220 tablets. I was about to buy an X200t with LED screen, L9600 processor, pen input only and 8GB RAM, but those don't show up very often at all, and the one that I was eyeing was bought before I had the funds to purchase it on ebay. No, I meant I DO want PEN input and of course, touch screen with the fingers and so on. MULTI TOUCH is not important to me.

I tried to find out the specs of my old machine but they couldn't even look it up...

I tried to do it on their site but every time I try, it tells me they're updating the site :(

    THanks
