This is for a new X200.
I have two questions about putting my recovery info on a USB flash drive.

    1. Will this be bootable from the thumb drive, or are the Lenovo recovery "discs" CD/DVD only?

    2. If I can do that, how big of a USB thumb drive will I need to hold it?

    Thanks!

Yes, it should be bootable from the thumb drive, as long as the drive is bootable. I wound up putting the R&R on an external USB hard drive in an enclosure, in a separate partition. I actually used this to restore onto an mSATA drive and it worked fine. I just checked, and the used size on the drive is 9.15 gigs, so you'll need something larger than 8 GB.

    Thanks Iucounu!
I also misspoke at the beginning of this thread.
It's an X220 not an X200, but I'm sure that in any event if I just get a 16 Gig stick I will be fine.
I just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything approaching 32 Gig, or worse yet, just over 32 Gig, which means I'd have to get a 64gig stick, and they aren't exactly cheap.
    Good info - thanks!

FWIW, if you or someone you know has a Costco account;they have a 16gb PNY thumbdrive for $18 delivered.

Added 8/22/11: Actually you don't need to be a member to order from them online, it seems, but they will add on a non member fee. I discovered this while making a order and having my membership number at first not kick in; I spotted the additional fee tagged onto the price. The fee was small for the 2 items I bought, less than a couple bucks.

I would be curious to know if they have it in store by you as well; the ones near me only had a cruzer 4gb multipack.

I just placed an order for the drive myself, as well as a 8gb Class 10 Micro SDHC card for the same price which I'll use in my cell phone.

For the record, I do not have any affiliation with Costco other than having been a member there about 20 yrs; their return policy is awesome.
