If i don't select the dvd burner (it add 2 weeks of shipping delay) can I still make backup? Like making .iso that I could burn on my desktop?

Can you borrow an external drive for making the discs?

You can backup onto CD-Rs, but it will take around 9 of them.

Yes you can. You can make ISOs using Virtual CD v9.

    http://www.virtualcd-online.com/

You can just download it to demo it, and after you're done you can just uninstall it... or buy it, if you decide you like it. It'll allow you to make a Virtual DVD burner on your system, and it worked fine for me. Just make sure you have all of the Virtual DVD+Rs set up on your system before you begin the process. For some reason, while the backup thing is running, it doesn't allow Virtual CD to make new images on the computer. No problem, just set up 1 Virtual CD-R, and 2 Virtual DVD+Rs (or 3 Virtual DVD+Rs if you want...) and then just switch to them when the IBM backup utility asks you to put an empty disk in the drive.

That worked out perfectly fine for me.

If your intent is on making an image of the HD, you can just take the HD out, connect it to your desktop and image it using acronis, powerquest, norton ghost, etc...
