    Manually power off the optical drive

    Is there any way to do this manually? The power settings do it after a while, but I figure if I can do it manually right away I might as well save that little bit of power.

    Techinically, you can power off the Optical drive via Device Manager by disabling the driver. However, I doubt that you'll even see a difference on your overall battery usage since if your not using the Optical drive, it'll be in dormant standby mode that uses very little power.
