I purchased a new T430s online (not from Lenovo), not shipped yet.

The seller supplied the serial number.

The Warranty Started Sept, 29, 2012.

It says the warranty was "Upgraded" but the Base and Upgraded warranty look almost identical, just slightly different words.

So I'm not sure if this was originally bought from the Outlet or what because I don't see why anyone would add such minimal warranty upgrade and there is no online option to upgrade warranty.

To my surprised I contacted Lenovo and they sad the "Post" warranty for 2 years onsite is only $59.00, seems to good to be true, but it won't start until this September 2013.

Any way my concern is the infamous BSOD problem on T430s

What are the chances this laptop has that problem?

I would cancel it now or not open it and send it back if I know it has it. I don't want a repaired laptop and I don't want to have to send it out the day I receive it for repair.

Can you tell from serial number if it has the BSOD fix?

Post the exact verbiage (minus the serial number) from Lenovo's warranty lookup and we'll take it from there. The warranty can be upgraded/extended only once over the life of the machine. Outlet machines usually have the 7-character model number ending in CTR, but one can't upgrade/extend the warranty on them.

    No.

The part that I have in bolded red above would lead me to believe that this machine originated from the Outlet. I might be wrong, but I don't believe I am in this particular case.

Unless you got it dirt cheap and/or is exactly what you were looking for you may want to give it a second thought if you have general concerns about the model in question. The fact that it came from Outlet doesn't mean it was ever repaired, though - might've been a part of a cancelled order.

    Good luck.

I might suggest calling sales and asking about upgrading the warranty. They should know whether it's refurbed or not. After you figure that out, you can decide what's your next course of action.

On a side note, I've never heard of the T430s BSODing, so I'd say the chances of it happening are slim, though not zero.

The question was not about Refurb or not. I'm confident it's not a refurb because the seller clearly marked which units were refurbs and sold for a little less.

I did contact Lenovo. I can get a "Post" warranty of $59.00 for 2 years on site. They could not tell me status of BSOD fix though.

The T430s thread is loaded with BSOD issues. It's a well know problem that was fixed last September. All T430s made before then, as far as I know have it. New motherboard to fix it.

Here is ONE page of many discussing it.
