Does Lenovo have a laptop with the following requirements?

    - 15" matte screen
    - full size keyboard with numeric keys
    - backlit keyboard

I've searched Lenovo website and here and can't find a model that meets all three criteria.

It doesn't. Only the old W701 series has the full keyboard, including the numeric keys. Matte screens are included for all 'traditional' thinkpads, e.g. T series, W series, X series (except the X1 and edge). Traditional thinkpads also have a 'thinklight', which is like a book light that you can turn on to illuminate the keyboard.

L series also has a matte screen, so does the Edge series. The Edge E520 has a numpad, though it lacks the backlit keyboard. Only the X1 has a backlit keyboard. Though, in my full and honest opinion, I don't see the purpose of a backlit keyboard.

I actually prefer the thinklight to a backlit keyboard. The light still gets the job done as far as the keyboard goes...but when using the laptop in the dark like that, it sheds enough light for other minor things you may need some illumination for.

No, Lenovo does not offer such a laptop, as backlighting can only be had in the X1 (which has a 13" glossy-glass-overlay screen), and only the defunct W7xx series and the Edge 520 have a numpad.

Judging from your requirements, the only business-grade laptop that offers all three is the Dell Latitude E6520.

    Thanks everyone for your input!

Thanks! It is a very nice laptop. Still very pricy, but hopefully the price will come down around Christmas time :)

I find the Think Light to be an excellent feature, and I would have to say that I prefer it to a backlit keyboard.

Also, I was previously leaning towards a Dell Lattitude to get the full numeric keyboard. However, I was eventually swayed by the Think Pad regardless. I'll probably just get a USB keypad for the times I need to do a lot of work with numbers, i.e. lab reports.

Assuming you're in the US, give the Dell Outlet a look for Latitude E6520 prices: often, there are very good deals there, especially when coupled with some of the 10-20% off Outlet coupons that Dell occasionally has. The laptops there have the standard 3-year warranty (the same as new E6520s); the only downside is that they're obviously not customizable.

Does the backlit keyboard on the X1 illuminate through the keys or just around them?
