    Hello

I am running the Nvidia Quadro NVS 140m on my R61. When idle, the temperature is approx 52 degrees C (125F). What is the maximum acceptable temperature when overclocking?

Everything above 90 is not healthy. If you overclock and play games, make sure you check the temps. You never know when it might jump to 100 centigrade. What is your full load temp atm?

Even at 90 C would be pushing it. When I overclocked my 8600M GS, I went as far as it could go and I maxed out at 70~75 C when overclocked and gaming. It did very well actually, but anything over 85 I would say isn't good long term. And be careful because who knows what might happen, all of a sudden, POP and there goes your whole laptop.

Which GPU is it? What size laptop?

My full load temp is 58-59 centigrade. I am running a NVS 140m on a 15.4" widescreen Lenovo R61.

I suppose I could clock it a little higher?

That is an amazing temp and comfy for the GPU. Clock it higher, check for artifacts and monitor the temp. Everything above that, due to higher clock, can lead to higher temps on everything. If you are willing to have your GPU between 75-80 degrees centigrade, go for it. It is your call. 75-80 is a temperature I do not like on my GPU. That is me...

I clocked it from the stock core/memory 400/600 to 650/950 and the temperature rose to a maximum of 67 degrees. When clocking higher, artifacts and even a complete freeze set the limits.

Going to experiment on going to about 700/1000. That's the max, I suppose.

700/902 is possible, several artifacts though. make sure you set your fan to high/disengaged

you temps will increase the longer you stress the gpu but usually even out after 2 hours. atitool has a great tester and is way over the top. no game will likely top whatever temps you get coming out the that program.

so if you test and get 85 after two hours, then its safe to assume most games will be in the range of 70 to 80 max (the other main variable is the actual temp in the room. leave some wiggle room for this if you travel a lot)

I disagree. 3 Hours of Doom 3 ROE gave me 90 celsius on my X800 back in the day. This was 15 degrees more than the ATI utility reported. At 75 degrees with no artifacts I said it is cool. Luckily I put the alarm at 85 and whilst playing doom 3 I was brought back to the desktop.

did you run it artifact test or just use the 3d view? however that's very interesting. maybe this has something to do with a windows screen vs full screen
