Sorry for typing out the thread without searching - My battery is at 4% capacity and i need to get this out fast for opinions.

    1) Somehow, the battery decides to go in the "maximum lifespan mode". I am not able to turn it off by changing any setting.
    2) The adapter does not charge the battery when I want it to. It starts randomly charging when it likes to, despite being plugged in. Even the power led at the bottom of the screen does not come on. I will be trying with another charger tomorrow to ensure it is not a charger issue.

Bottom line, battery does not charge, and am not able to use the laptop. Any quick pointers / suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Presuming we're talking about X201 in your sig, what OS are you running?

Sounds like the battery might be on its last legs. I'd try running a battery calibration (you can do so in Power Manager).

Yeah... Its the x201 in my Sig. I'm running Windows 8.1

Battery is a year old, had it replaced in December 2012. I've always been using itnbwith custom charge thresholds ( start charging below 45% and charge up to 80%), so I believe the battery is in a pretty good condition..

Are you saying 4% state of charge or 4% full charge capacity remaining? Also, definitely try a calibration - I've had the battery increase lifespan stuff glitch on my x120e (known issue with some models), and the only way to resolve it was to charge to 100% once.

Sorry for the confusion about the 4%. The battery charges well, no issues with that. I had only 4% remaining on the battery when I started the thread. Ideally, it should have started charging when I plugged in, but it did not. Im wondering if it was because if the max life span mide

OK, got it. Did you eventually get it charging? (turning it off and then plugging in might help)

Problem solved - the charger went kaput! Tried couple of other chargers at work and the laptop charges just fine.

I will have to buy a new charger :(. I wonder how it conked off - considering I have been running off of UPS's or spike busters all along!
