May I boot from PCMCIA on a T61 ?
An article say "Many ThinkPads, even as old as some original Pentium models, can boot from a PCMCIA slot." from http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installation_on_ThinkPads_without_CD-ROM_drive
An article say "PCMCIA no", from http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Supported_Boot_Devices

I have tried booting an R61 and other recent ThinkPads from an external hard drive connected to an eSATA CardBus card: no go. I've not heard of anyone else getting this to work, and believe it is not possible without a customized BIOS. If anyone knows differently, would be very interested to know.

No, It does not work as fmyhr says. At least on my t500, I can boot from USB but I tried it with esata through an expresscard slot and no go, it has a problem with the express card being in the slot when it is restarted, haven't investigated too much though.
