I heard success stories about running Maya 2008 with X3100 video card. They just changed the screen color depth from 32 bit to 16 bit. This solved the screen cut off problem. Can someone verify this? Can you check the functionality in hypershade window too?

I really want a laptop with x3100 card to learn Maya. I don't want a nVidia card because it reduces battery hour by 50%.

Switching from 32 bit to 16 bit doesn't do the trick. It just works with an older driver, even under 32 bit.
