I just ordered a T61 with a PC Card and Media Card Slot.

Is the media card slot ready to go? i.e. can it read an xD Picture card directly? Or do I still need to buy an adapter card?

We already have several USB xD card readers but I thought it would be nice to travel without it if it was already built into my laptop.

Also have seen some PCMCIA xD card readers, but they read only up to 512Mb but my husband and I are now using 2Gb cards. Why the restriction?

Not sure, but I'd have gone with ExpressCard. It allows more flexibility. (More options)

I agree, you're better off getting one with an expresscard slot and buying your own expresscard reader.
