Does it make a difference in performance to have two 1GB memory cards versus one 2GB card?

My T61 came with two 512 MB cards. Does it make more sense to keep one of the factory cards and add a 2GB or to replace the factory ones for two 1GB cards?

Thanks in advance for your helpful response. Sorry if this was already discussed somewhere else.

I think it really only helps if you have dual-channel memory. Go use the memory advisor on crucial.com to see if your model has dual-channel capability. Also, to use dual-channel memory, you should buy identical sticks of memory( same capacity and manufacturer model ).

Thanks msiner, the site was pretty helpful.
    I don't believe I have dual-channel so I think I'll just purchase one 2GB card for now.
